Durham Castle Wedding Videography – Liv & Mike

Durham Castle

Durham Castle with a picture perfect wedding venue and I’m so happy we were able to film there for Livia & Mike’s wedding. Imagine saying “I do” in a medieval castle nestled by the River Wear, with stunning views all around. It’s got that perfect mix of history and romance that sets the stage for an unforgettable celebration. Picture yourselves exchanging vows in the grandeur of the Great Hall, with its majestic architecture and centuries-old charm. And the photo ops? Absolutely incredible! From the picturesque courtyard to the lush gardens, every corner is a backdrop waiting to be captured. Plus, your guests will be talking about this unique venue for years to come. It everything we love from a wedding venue.

Durham

Durham is a beautiful city, wrapped in history and nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of northeast England. With its iconic cathedral dominating the skyline and the cobbled streets, Durham is like stepping back in time. But it’s not just about the city itself; it’s the surrounding areas that add to its allure. Just a stone’s throw away, you’ve got the idyllic Durham Dales, with their rolling hills and picture-perfect villages like Blanchland and Stanhope. Whether you’re exploring the quaint towns along the River Wear or venturing into the wilds of Northumberland National Park, Durham and its surroundings have something to enchant every visitor.

Livia & Mike’s Wedding

Livia & Mike’s Durham Castle wedding was epic in proportions but grounded and authentic in all the right ways – what stood out to me was that through the grand venue and incredible decor, the couple’s focus was always on their friends and family having a great time.

When Livia & Mike first contacted us to do their Durham Castle wedding videography, they loved our videography style – how we captured everything in a cinematic way but focused on the natural, authentic moments between their guests that they valued so much.

The day started with getting ready in Livia’s family home nearby, where the Canadian and British flags flew high in the garden – this was a lovely touch to represent the coming together of their 2 families.

Ceremony

The outdoor ceremony at Durham castle had the most incredible backdrop and the most impressive floral decorations. In true Livia & Mike style, even the ceremony was perfectly integrated with their family and friends. Mike’s father officiated the ceremony and Livia’s friend played music as they walked down the aisle. Mike’s dad had a couple of blunders which broke the tension of the morning and what followed was the most joyful ceremony.

After the ceremony, Livia & Mike had their reception in the courtyard of Durham Castle, and again the backdrop was perfect. A singer providing the soundtrack for the drinks and the sun providing the warmth, it was a relaxed and bright couple of hours. We also managed to get out for some shots of the couple together. While not hugely important to them, they wanted some shots of them together around the venue, and I’m not exaggerating when I say there was an overwhelming amount of picture perfect spots to film the couple in.

Couple Shots

Livia & Mike had the absolute best approach to their couple shots. They were happy to take direction from us, trust the process, which is ideal! Equally when the time came, they chatted, laughed and smiled their way through while we filmed all the best bits.

Dinner & Speeches

I can only describe the dinner and speeches as epic! The great hall was tastefully and brightly decorated, bringing a perfect balance between the dark walls and the brightly coloured florals.

The speeches were everything you could ever imagine, with Livia’s parents starting the formalities. Their Canadian charm and passion really shone through. They had some amazing quotes, stories and a speech that even had me crying with laughter and warmed my heart equally.

Party

Things ramped up in the evening and their party was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. The guests were ready to get moving on the dance floor and the band blew us all away. The first dance was followed by Livia & her father dancing their father daughter dance to that Pulp Fiction routine. This kicked the night off perfectly, and the dance floor never cleared out from that moment.

I loved everything about this wedding and Livia & Mike were some of the nicest people we’ve ever met. What a day!
